12605 Dulaney Valley Road is situated less than one mile north of Loch Raven Reservoir in north-central Baltimore County. The surrounding area is a mixture of rural and low-density residential land uses. The home is located north of Peerce's Plantation, west of Long Green, and south of Cloverland Farms.
Though scenic and rural, the area is about ten minutes north of the Baltimore Beltway (I-695) and about ten minutes east of the Harrisburg Expressway (I-83), providing access to employment centers throughout the region. Shopping is conveniently located along York Road in nearby Towson, Timonium and Hunt Valley.

Nearby public schools are Carol Manor Elementary, Ridgely and Cockeysville Middle Schools and Dulaney High School. Private and parochial schools, health care, recreational facilities and a multitude of shopping and dining opportunities are close by. Surrounded by the Loch Raven Watershed and farmland, the home's pastoral setting is convenient yet private.
"Springfield" is identified as Inventory No. BA-0412 in the Maryland Historical Trust. The Baltimore County Council placed the home on its landmarks list by County Council Bill No. 13-06, in 2006.
Originally part of a 2,500 acre manor called the "Valley of Jehosaphat", the home is thought to have been constructed in 1798 as a log cabin. Extensively expanded throughout the nineteenth century, the house contains nearly 6,000 square feet of living area.
According to family members, Springfield has been vacant since 1998. The house contains many architectural details and lends an extraordinary opportunity to restore it to historic grandeur. Remaining are a former tunnel, attributed to the underground railroad, which traverses the yard from the home's basement to a stone bathhouse (former smoke house) aside a former inground swimming pool.
